Procedure of Application for "Chinese Bridge" Scholarships

Required Qualification of Applicants:

Any overseas participant of "Chinese Bridge" - Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students, who has got excellent record in the HSK and is below the age of 45.

Relevant Materials to Be Provided:

1. The original and a photocopy of the "Chinese Bridge" (HSK) Scholarship Application Form (printed and provided exclusively by the NOCFL Office);

2. A copy of Chinese Proficiency Certificate;

3. A copy of certificate of educational background (at the highest level acquired so far);

4. Applicant below the age of 18 shall provide appropriate legal documents of their guardian;and

5. Students eligible for Type A Scholarship shall provide a Foreigner's Physical Examination Record (printed and provided by the China Health and Quarantine Administration).

Offers, Standards and Duration of Scholarships:

1. Scholarship includes all the cost free of charge for enrolment, tuition, basic teaching materials, and accommodation (to be appropriated directly to the relevant college or institution by the office);

2. Enjoying the same medical care insurance treatment as Chinese students do;

3. Enjoying a stipend of RMB 1,100 per month for the cost of livelihood;

4. This scholarship is classified into three types: A, B, and C; with a duration of each type as follows: 10 months (one school year) for Type A, five months (one semester) for Type B, and 1 month for Type C;

5. Students enjoying type A or type B scholarship shall be provided with a subsidy once-for-all for settlement upon arrival in China, the standards are as follows:

Type A Scholarship, RMB600 yuan; Type B Scholarship, RMB300 yuan.

Agencies Dealing With Applications and Selective Admission to Universities:

Entrusted by the NOCFL, the Secretariat of the Management Committee of China Fund For Student Studying Abroad (hereinafter referred to as "the Fund") is responsible for dealing with applications for the scholarship; application may be directly mailed to the "Fund" (please refer to the address shown in the Application Form). Scholarship applicants may select one of the following universities: Beijing Language and Culture University, Fudan University, Beijing Normal University and Peking University as a reference indication for the Fund to deal with their applications.

Deadline for Application:

The applicant should send out relevant materials to the Fund before April 30th of each year.

Admission:

The Fund will review all the applications (if the applicant's qualification or the materials provided fail to meet the required conditions, the applicant will be refuted), and then according to the applicant's choice, transfer the application materials to the selected university to make the final decision whether they will be admitted or not. Basically, the applicant shall not change their selected university, major courses, and duration of schooling after being admitted to the university.

The Fund will mail a Letter of Admission before July 31 to the relevant Chinese Embassy (or Consulate) in foreign countries, which will transfer it to the local agency in charge of recruiting students (together with an enclosed Foreign Student Application Form for a Chinese Visa, [Form JW201], if the student holds a foreign passport,) and the agency will directly deliver it to the student.

Entry Visa and Enrolment:

Recruit students who hold a foreign passport should apply for an 'F Visa' from the local Chinese Embassy or Consulate, while providing the original and a copy of the Letter of Admission and a Foreign Student Application Form for a Chinese Visa, and a personal ordinary passport . Those students who are granted Type A Scholarship should provide an additional original and a copy of Foreigner's Physical Examination Record, and apply for an 'X Visa'). Recruit students should bring the original documents with them coming to China. Otherwise, universities will not allow them to make enrolment if they bring in other types of passport, visas, and above-mentioned documents other than original ones.

Recruit students holding a Chinese passport need not apply for a new Chinese visa.

Recruit students should enroll at the university on the date specified in the Letter of Admission, and go through all the formalities according to the regulation. Those who cannot come to enroll on time should ask for leave beforehand from the university. Those who pass the deadline for enrolment without approval will be treated as automatically giving up their status as student, and at the same time they shall be automatically disqualified the eligible status to have the "Chinese Bridge" (HSK) Scholarship.

Students being granted Type A Scholarship and holding a Chinese passport shall undergo a physical examination after enrollment at the university. Any student who does not meet the required conditions for admission shall be disqualified for the status of student.

Within the specified period, the recruit students who have been offered Type A Scholarship and hold an overseas passport should apply for a health condition qualification certificate in the Health and Quarantine Department, along with provision of their personal passport, the letter of admission, Foreigner's Physical Examination Record and blood test report. In case the record of physical examination is not up the required standard, they are required to take another physical examination once more. Those who refuse to take the physical examination or are checked to have contracted any diseases that are prohibited by law to be carried into China, shall be ordered to go back to their own country in the limited time; and they shall bear all the expenses for the physical examination and the trip.

Recruit students having been offered Type A Scholarship shall go through residence registration procedures at the local Public Security Department, after passing the physical examination or having obtained such qualifications.
